Another crazy week but the weekend is almost here 😍

When I was 17, I got Descartes’ “I think therefore I am” tattooed on my hip in Latin. I love this tattoo and its meaning has evolved over the years for me. First day of teaching two Creative Writing seminars at the university 👩🏿‍🏫👩🏿‍🏫👩🏿‍🏫⁣ ⁣ Every week for 4 hours, I’ll be teaching the first-year and second-year students all about storytelling, plot, genres, poetry, writing for the stage, radio etc. I’m so so excited to teach them and learn from them 🤗🤗🤗 #kamandkojouri

When I first saw this video, it made really me smile. But then I wondered how I could ever write such a thing. There are children in this world who have witnessed their parents blow up in front of them, how are they supposed to take that as a blessing? It’s easy to preach love and gratitude when you haven’t spent the past ten years sleeping on concrete and benches. When you haven’t spent the last three days on an empty stomach. I don’t know how I could’ve written something so reductionistic and banal. But I suppose it was my truth then, and yet, I disagree with myself now, and this is important.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I disagree with my opinions like I disagree with others’ opinions. I think we ought to embrace and leave space for our contradictions. Because contradictions teach us and help us advance. The self is an activity, always in a state of flux. And often times we spend our lives evading this self. Our ultimate goal ought not to be to strive for beauty and perfection and remembrance, but to consistently rediscover ourselves so that we may begin to know ourselves deeply, so we may begin to know our essence, our soul, this emanation of Godhood. And by doing so, we unlearn our bigotry, our hate, our fears and complexes. All of our life’s work comes down to that: to strive for betterment. So we must never yield—even to ourselves—never become complacent. We have to assiduously endeavour to rediscover ourselves and one another, because we are forever changing. Because, in the first place, we have the capacity for change. For betterment.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Long story short, don’t be afraid to disagree with yourself. This is how we grow 😊 #kamandkojouri
